No More Pork

I don’t mean that literally, although I don’t actually eat pork 99.5% of the time.

I mean the pork of your story. The fat. The excess narrative and back-story. That’s my task for today: eliminating the unnecessary. Getting rid of the “telling.”

I bought James Scott Bell’s “27 Fiction Writing Blunders-And How Not to Make Them.” I have to admit he writes a ton of these books and you can find a lot of what he says in his other works, but I definitely find value in every one that I read. Even the information I’ve already heard and know, it’s an opportunity to revisit the ideas and refresh my memory. It also pumps me up. I’m all about improving my craft.

I’m a big fan of his work.

So today’s task–starting my 6th draft and working on cutting most of chapter 1.
