August Roundup

Hi Friends!

I usually like to write a blog at least once a month, but it’s already the end of the month and I’m stretched thin. I thought I would do something a little different and share with you what I’ve been up to instead.

August Writing/Speaking:

Giving my first dharma talk/leading meditation for Orange County Buddhist Church, entitled “Anger and the Dharma.” (Fast forward through the chanting, I thought I was gonna die haha. I write, not sing!)

My essay “Finding the Dharma” came out in Lion’s Roar this month.

My essay “Dealing with a Big Disappointment: How to Soften the Blow and Move On” on Tiny Buddha.

Currently Reading:

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.” From the Amazon description: Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells—taken without her knowledge—became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than sixty years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects; helped lead to important advances like in vitro fertilization, cloning, and gene mapping; and have been bought and sold by the billions.

Favorite Netflix shows this month:

Favorite social media posts:

I’m working on new projects and hoping to share more next time. I hope everyone is well.

Kindest regards,

Teresa Shimogawa
